Meg Lyons, Shard Financial MediaSean, VP of Strategy at Salary.com, will be speaking at this year’s Reward & Payroll Summit. Ahead of the event, we caught up with him to get his insights.

What are the most significant challenges facing payroll/reward professionals today?
More and more asks, data, analytics and technology all available and claiming to help move the business forward – all while you attempt to tackle the same goals with the same budgets!
What excites you most about participating in Reward & Payroll Summit this year?
The convergence and coordination between payroll and total rewards that has been emerging over the past few years. Such a great opportunity to leverage the data, process and knowledge of those teams to help the business.
Which session or theme are you most looking forward to, and why?
I’m just a bit biased, the Total Rewards and Tech side!
What advice would you give to companies looking to innovate while ensuring compliance in today’s regulatory environment?
Have a roadmap and plan.
What role does technology and/or AI play in transforming payroll/reward, and how can businesses leverage it effectively?
Definitely a loaded question! Many options but the overarching business goals, and aligning pay with them, is not changing. Make sure you know where want to go (I often quote Cheshire Cat “if you don’t know where you are going all roads will lead you there”) to then align the best tool(s) with your goals.
What inspired you to have a career in payroll/reward, and what keeps you passionate about it?
Total Rewards found me, I didn’t find TR, but I keep coming back as the problems that organizations are working are always unique and challenging which guarantees every day keeps me on my toes.
What do you hope attendees will take away from your session at Reward & Payroll Summit?
The amazing opportunity that is in front of us to use the skills, experience, data, and tools from payroll and total rewards to move the business forward while equitably and competitively compensation our people.
