Ahead of the Autumn Update 2019, Asif Sadiq, head of diversity, inclusion and belonging at The Telegraph, takes part in a 60 second interview.
Sadiq will be speaking at the conference, taking place on December 5th at the Hilton London Bankside.
Reward Strategy (RS): What has been the story of your career so far?
Asif Sadiq (AS): “I have had quite a journey from working as head of equality, diversity and human rights for the police, to head of diversity and inclusiveness for EY and now to my role at The Telegraph Media Group.”
RS: What do you think has been the most visible change to the reward and HR profession in the last year?
AS: “The most visible change has been awareness of pay gaps and how these impact staff from diverse backgrounds.”
RS: What do you think are currently and will be the biggest trials facing reward professionals?
AS: “I feel that the way we reward staff is changing and the biggest change is the different ways in which staff now want to work. This all means that the way we structure reward will have to change if we are going to retain and recruit the best talent.”
RS: What advice would you give the next generation joining the profession?
AS: “Being a diversity professional, I would of course say the focus and understanding of diversity and inclusion. However, I don’t say this from the angle of it being the right thing to do, but highlighting the fact that it is a business imperative and should be weaved into all areas of the business.”
RS: Without giving too much away, what two things will delegates learn from your session?
AS: “I will cover equal parental pay and what it means for staff and organisations, as well as touch upon other elements of shared parental leave.”
RS: What other sessions are you looking forward to at this year’s Autumn Update?
AS: “I think the line up is great and I, personally, will be keen to hear more about addressing employee wellbeing.”
