Today (June 10), is the last time employers will be able to furlough an employee for the first time.
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has been extended until October, with new flexible furlough rules introduced from July. This means furloughed employees can start working part-time from July 1.
Claims from July onwards will be restricted to employers currently using the scheme and for those employees that have previously been furloughed. Meaning, today (June 10) is the last day an employer can furlough someone for the first time.

The CJRS guidance also notes that, from July 1, the number of employees an employer claims for, in any claim period, cannot exceed the maximum number they have claimed for under any previous claim.
