The data analytics and consumer credit reporting company was certified as a Digital Identity Service Provider (IDSP), providing verification for Right to Work, Right to Rent and DBS checks through the government’s Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF).

The right to work rules, which were implemented from 1 October, mean that employers must use either a manual check, an online Home Office check or a government-certified identity service provider (IDSP), which would carry out digital checks on behalf of the employer.

Pre-Covid, most right to work checks were conducted in person, or with the potential employee posting their relevant documents to the employer.

However, during the pandemic in-person right to work checks were allowed to take place remotely, using scanned documents and video calls, leading to This and increased risk of fraudulent documents, putting employers at risk of hiring individuals without a legal right to work in the UK.

By supporting verification routes through both Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA) and Document Checking, Experian identity verification solutions will help increase consumer inclusion, meaning more people can verify their identity and access services digitally, the company said.

Eduardo Castro, Experian’s Managing Director, Identity and Fraud, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised as one of the leading providers of verification services in the UK.

“The framework – and the certification – is a vital step in helping to improve access to digital services for everyone. Millions of people will require Right to Rent and Right to Work checks this year, as well as access to other services.

“Being a Certified IDSP with several approaches to verification means we can help more consumers access digital services, verifying their identities easily and securely, giving confidence to both the organisation and the individual.

“The certification is a result of much hard work by the team and acknowledges our ongoing commitment to the very highest standards in compliance and regulatory requirements.”
