The hidden workload affecting your people (and your payroll)

There is a workload most organisations don’t track but HR and payroll teams feel the impact of it every day.

There is a workload most organisations don’t track but HR and payroll teams feel the impact of it every day.

Life admin.

Sorting bills, chasing appointments, managing finances… it doesn’t stop when the working day starts. And over time, it chips away at focus, productivity and wellbeing.

Experian and Great Place To Work® have been speaking to 2,400 UK employees and the data is pretty striking:

  • Only 57% of employees say they get support with life admin today
  • Those who do are 3× more likely to have a good work–life balance
  • And organisations that support it see productivity jump by up to 38 percentage points

This isn’t just a wellbeing issue. It’s a performance one.

And when that support isn’t there, it often shows up elsewhere: absence, distraction, financial stress… all things that land with HR and payroll to manage.

The full findings are together in this short report, Permission to Thrive, explores how leading organisations are

  • Reducing admin friction to boost focus and performance
  • Building high-trust cultures that unlock productivity
  • Embedding practical, scalable support strategies for employees

If you’re thinking about retention, wellbeing, or just making the working day run a bit smoother it’s worth a look.
